AYSO Region 183 - Chicago - Peterson Park

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers (FAQ)

Who will be my player's assigned coach?
In mid-to-late August, we send out postcards and emails with your player's assigned volunteer coach phone number and team number.  In addition, we contact the coaches and inform them of their team assignments.

When does the Fall schedule start?
Fall games usually begin the Saturday after Labor Day. Teams play 8 games in the fall (weather permitting).

When does the Spring schedule start?
Spring games begin in mid-April. Teams play 8 games in the spring (weather permitting). No games are played over Memorial Day Weekend. The spring schedule ends in June with our Region Soccer Fest.

What is Soccer Fest?
At the end of every season, the last week of the spring schedule is Soccer Fest. This event is located at the Peterson Park South Fields.  Teams play 2 mini-games.  In addition to the games, we have trophy distribution.

My player played in the fall and had a great time? How do I register him/her for the Spring?
Our registrations are for an entire year, including Fall and Spring. Players play on the same team as in the fall (and use the same uniform).

My child wasn't registered for the Fall. Can we register him/her for Spring?
Because our registrations are for an entire year, all our teams are formed before the start of the fall schedule. As a result, we have a limited number of spots open for new players in the spring. However, you can register and be put on a waiting list (there is no cost to be added to the waiting list). If a spot becomes available, we will begin contacting players on the waiting list.

What does this U and Number mean (i.e., 5U, 6U, 8U)?
This is a code that we use in AYSO to indicate the "age-assignment" to a division based on birth year.   The U means "Under" and the number is the age limit / cutoff.   So for example 5U means players assigned to this division are 5 years old or younger.

What are the AYSO age brackets?
We have Playground (4U), 5U, 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U.

What days are games?
Region 183 plays its primary program on Saturdays.

What times are games?
Historically, Region 183 starts play at 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm.  Each team plays one game on Saturdays.

Where do you play games?
Region 183 primarily plays games at Peterson Park (10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 19U) and Hollywood Park (Playground, 5U, 6U, 8U).

Beginning at the 10U level, we arrange for teams to play against other AYSO regions, which can sometimes involve travel to those regions (usually Morton Grove and Lakefront). We try to have our teams at the 10U and 12U levels travel no more than once or twice per season. At the 14U level, because there are usually fewer teams, we arrange for more inter-regional play (usually against Lakefront) to provide players with more varied playing experience. Teams at the 14U level may travel more often depending on field availability.

The high school program (16U and 19U) usually plays Saturday games against teams from the Western and Southwestern suburbs (Oak Park, Elmwood, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lagrange, Lockport) as well as Hyde Park. Those games take place either at Peterson Park or on the road.

When and where are team practices?

Your volunteer coach will determine the times and location for team practices. Many teams practice Tuesday or Thursday afternoons/evenings at Peterson Park North field.

Where is Peterson Park North Field?
The Peterson Park North Field is the half of the park that runs along Peterson Ave. (@ Central Park and Peterson Ave intersections).

Where is Peterson Park South Field?
The Peterson Park South Fields is the actual large field that is next to the Fieldhouse and Tennis Courts.

What fields are at Hollywood Park?
On Saturdays, we have fields for 5U, 6U and 8U games. Playground (4U) activities also take place at Hollywood Park.

Why do you have team numbers and not team names?
Region 183 uses team numbers for managing the schedules and coordination.    We ask that you remember the team number assignment.   We have lots of teams in our region and having names makes it hard with regards to our standard practices.

How come my child knows the team name?
Either the coach or players decided to name the team at the beginning of the season.   However our staff will not know the team name if asked.
